Cardinal

The Washington Post (Kids) November 17, 2010

Washington's Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl is getting a big promotion this week.
On Saturday, the leader of the Catholic Church in Washington and parts of Maryland will be made a cardinal, one of the highest positions in the church.
Principal Michael Friel and the more than 450 students at Mary of Nazareth School in Darnestown came up with a special way to honor the soon-to-be cardinal, by making their own.
The school's art (Mrs. Malinda Marcus) and computer (Mr. Laura Davidson) teachers created a shape that the students could fit into. The shape of a Cardinal. Preschoolers made up the legs, and some kids wore yellow uniforms to create the beak. More than 40 photos were taken from the roof of the school gym to get just the perfect shot.
Principal Friel says the school wanted to express that they were "excited for the archbishop to fly home a cardinal."
